Hi mamas! Hope you can help this SSC virgin. I just received a Kanga X2 with petite straps that I was really excited to try on because of the good things I've heard about it. However, to my disappointment, the shoulder straps keep threatening to slide off. The chest strap doesn't do much for my comfort either.

I'll try to post pictures later, but has any mama here experienced a similar problem?

I have cinched the straps all the way (I think). I am 158cm tall, 48kg, wear US size XS and have 36B bust. (Sorry if TMI.  :rotflmao: )

Do you think I need x-petite straps instead? Looking forward to replies. TIA!  :goodvibes:

Hi pineapplegarden,

U are having trouble with slipping straps or the carrier is not snug enough?
If it is a slipping issue, does it happen when u frontcarry or backcarry? U may just need to tighten the chest strap.
If u think baby is not snug or if u feel shoulder strains (as if baby is pulling you down), u may need xtra petite straps. We have few petite mamas who found best fit in their xtra petite xt/x2.. Hope they'll chip in soon.

It'll be great if you could post some pics so we can 'troubleshoot' your prob together..

Pictures would really help troubleshoot the problem. How about adjusting the chest strap so it's positioned higher up on the chest? And I agree with tightening the chest straps. That works for me.

I am a petite mama myself, and though petite straps work for me, I prefer x-petite straps. For the record, I'm 159.5cm and usually weigh around 46 kg.

Hi Norley and Rita!

Thanks for responding to my SOS plea so quickly. Thankfully the Kanga I bought happens to be a petite that can cinch to x-petite! I've also figured out how to cinch the straps properly by looking at Sara's posts on TBW.

However, I can't get comfortable in it still. If I cinch the straps tight enough such that they don't slip off, it feels really tight and I can feel DS perspiring. Plus major problem is: the nerves in my shoulder sockets start to tingle! This is especially so in back carry. In front carry, the discomfort is in my neck muscles.

I took pix on my iPhone but don't know how to upload them to my post!

 I think there's instruction somewhere on how to post pictures. What I do is, I upload onto photobucket, and then copy and paste the IMG code here.

Have you tried my suggestion of positioning the chest straps higher up?

If the straps feel tight, it might mean you dont need petite/xtra-petite straps after all. Waiting for your picture. :)

Hi Rita, yes, I have. The chest buckle rubs against my skin and increases my discomfort, even as they keep the shoulder straps from slipping. But it works in front carry - I managed to cinch the straps to a spot that's just comfy and snug enough, and shoulders stay on with the chest strap pushed high enough on my back.

I do need the petite straps. If I even let them out by a little too much, the straps are too loose and fall off my shoulders.

Finally, pictures! Thanks for the links, mamas.  :thumleft:

I'm wondering if I should just use the Kanga X2 for front carries, to eliminate the problem of the chest strap rubbing against my chest? When in front carry it doesn't feel that bad, but isn't as comfortable as my ObiMama MT. Or is this to be expected of SSCs?  :dunno:

I really wish this forum were Tapatalk-compatible - it'd be easier to access this way! Thanks again mamas!  :goodvibes:

Hi & welcome. :)
I'm around your size & the kanga doesn't work for me either. The shoulder strap angle & padding make me ache. And yes, it was kinda warm coz baby was too close to me.
I can wear the Kinderpack & Ergo & a bunch of other ssc's & find them much more comfortable for me.

i love my Kanga. currently working it out with a J because my DD loves arms out.
i'm an x-petite user. the only instance that the straps will slide off is if i front carry without chest belt.
otherwise back carry is ok.
perhaps u'd be more comfortable in a standard? would be much helpful if you put more pics of u wearing it (chest strap!), so that we could help spot the problem better :D
(hmm, maybe i shud put pics of me wearing mine too lol, i wore my 3.5 yo at the zoo for awhile a few weeks ago, not much discomfort cept that she was seriously heavy @__@)

can u try wear ur baby higher at waist? Really high just below ur boobs, in that case probably will bring the shoulder straps/buckle lower to the side. From the pic, it looks 'ouch'!! It really near your armpit. I donno why... Just try high backcarry first

Hi Happi mama,

If you don't mind, what's your size please?

I have an Inf/Adj KP with the perfect fit adjusters. Do you need petite straps or the perfect fit adjusters on your KPs?

I've tried carrying baby higher at waist. However that's just uncomfortable for my ribcage, not to mention that the shoulder straps would be more likely to slip off my shoulders even more. I do find that front carries are more comfortable.

If you don't mind sharing, Norley, what's your size please?

Hi, I'm around same size as you pre-pregnancy, 157cm, 48-50kg.
I wear standard/petite KP & infant/standard KP.
I need the petite KP when my DD was smaller & if I want to wear on my waist.
I can use standard/standard KP now that she's bigger >32 cinched to the smallest straps. Std/Pt is safer for my sizing, however if add on a few kilos std/std fits great! ;)
Infant/std KP I don't need any adjustments, fits well.

Btw, a lot of us are on the MBW facebook group in case you need a quick response

i'm nowhere near your size hahahha...
i'm using std strap kanga & KPs and dont find much prob with any of std size... i notice petite mamas usually having trouble to get the right ssc with the right size...

So, did you find your sweet spot with your X2 dear? It takes a little fiddling with the straps and waist for most of us, but once you find it, it"s babywearing heaven. Later, you'll have to get your DH his own carrier though, else he'll adjust the straps and you won't find that spot again

Hi Norley, Rita, my R&R carrier arrived and I must say that it fits much, much better in front carry than the Kanga! So I've given the Kanga to my MIL, who loves it to bits. Strange thing is, she's an XL, but these straps work! Thanks for all your help mamas! :)
